World Kidney Day – 10th March – 2011
World Kidney Day is being observed across the world on second Thursday of March every year. This year it is observed on 10th March in the entire world. The Kidney diseases are increasing in its prevalence all over the world. Lack of awareness and knowledge about kidney diseases is contributing significantly to morbidity and mortality for the patients. The aim of the World Kidney Day is to increase the awareness about kidney diseases in the society and plan a collective strategy to combat this international epidemic called CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease). This involves not only the nephrologists and their patients but also the media, general public, NGOs and the Government and corporate.
This year on the day of WKD we have a very extensive country level campaign. Our entire field team have visited almost more than Six Thousand dialysis patients and explained them and their attendants comprehensive basics knowledge kidneys and kidney diseases. Patients were also explained about importance of Nutrition and how progression of kidney disease can be prolonged. We have distributed free of cost a 200 gm Tin of Lamino - Dialysis which is specially designed dietary supplement for the patients who are on Hemodialysis. We have also explained to the patients who are receiving Hemodialysis about the effective method of pain management through RENOPAIN (a specially formulated local anesthetic cream for Hemodialysis patients) during the dialysis procedure while accessing their fistula. We have distributed free of cost a 30 gm tube of Renopain to all these patients.
This complete campaign is very well appreciated by all the Nephrologist , Dialysis technicians , patients and their attendants.
